For parents dealing with children's health issues:
Empower your child to overcome adversity with the Sillwee Wobbert picture book series on children's health. Fun and appealing characters are set in a friendly multicultural environment.

What you can do to help children with Asthma, Diabetes or Heart conditions:
Frequently, the biggest problem for children with health issues isn't the problem itself. Their biggest concern is how they are viewed by their peers. Being teased about their condition is a pain they should not have to face. These books help children understand and accept these children's health issues in themselves and others. You can use these books to empower and become an advocate for your children. These books use fun, multicultural characters to teach children that health issues are OK.

Six specific things you can do:

  1. Share them with a Day Care center. These stories are great for preschoolers and include companion coloring books. Imagine a world where children come to school understanding and accepting these issues.
  2. Start or join a Sillwee Wobbert support group for your children in your area - like a play group.
  3. Present these books to your local PTA as a fundraising item and encourage your teachers to use them in their classroom.
  4. Refer this website to someone you know who would benefit from visiting here.
  5. Signup for the newsletter. We produce a quarterly email newsletter with news and support information that helps you understand and deal with these health issues.
  6. Give these books as a donation to a child to empower them in understanding and accepting these health conditions.

Personal Story:
As a child, I was diagnosed with juvenile diabetes. I know first hand how tough it can be at this age to face your peers and appear different. My third book is a reflection of my condition. At school the kitchen prepared separate meals for me which I had to pick up at the counter on a special tray. My classmates made fun of me, and I tried to handle their jokes as best as I could. It would have made it a lot easier if I had a resource like Sillwee Wobbert to explain that I wasn't alone dealing with this. If my peers understood better about my diabetes, we could have expressed our feelings and communicated better about it. That to me is the purpose of these books.
